Welcome back to part 2, y’all.
If you’re ready to take your life back, then you’ve come to the right place.
“You’re only one decision away from having a totally different life.”
And that decision is to take your life back.
Make the most of your time and money, build yourself up and improve the way you see yourself as a person, parent, spouse, etc.
The key things that you need to do to get yourself back on the right track are :
Establish a routine
Take control of your time
Manage your money
Improve your self image
In last week’s post How To Take Your Life Back Part 1 we talked about the first 2 steps – #1 Establishing a Routine and #2 Take Control of Your Time. If you’d like to read last week’s post. You can do so HERE!
Today, we are going to talk about the last 2 steps for taking your life back. #3 Manage Your Money and #4 Improve Your Self Image.
3. MANAGE YOUR MONEY
Think beyond payday!
HAVE AN EMERGENCY FUND
Start by saving $1,000 at first. And then slowly add to it until you have 6 months of expenses saved.
Once you have your emergency fund saved, don’t even think about spending it. It is for emergencies ONLY.
TRACK YOUR BILLS
At the beginning of each year, I write out each and every bill and fill in the highest amount that the bill would be. The only bill I don’t do this for is the electric bill because it’s so up and down depending on the weather and guests that stay with us and what not.
I have included a free download for you to print off and fill in so that you can track your bills for the whole year.
This tracker is for set monthly bills (car insurance, trash bill, car payment, phone bill, etc.).
You can find this tracker by subscribing to my blog HERE! After you sign up, you will be able to download your FREE bill tracker!
ADD UP ALL OF YOUR DEBT
Grab a calculator, sit down, and take a minute to add up all of your debt.
By doing this you are giving yourself a bigger picture of how much you really owe. When you look at the bigger picture, you can try to pay the maximum amount possible so that you can pay off your debt faster.
& do you know what paying off your debt faster means? Less money in interest! & less interest means more money in your pocket. It’s a big ‘ole win for everyone involved!
IMPLEMENT THE SNOWBALL EFFECT REPAYMENT PLAN
I’m sure you’ve heard of the snowball effect. This is a VERY effective debt repayment plan.
Here’s a great post about Dave Ramsey’s debt snowball method.
We have used the snowball effect for all of our debt and the only thing we owe is the mortgage on our house now!
BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF ABOUT YOUR BUDGET AND CUT BAD SPENDING HABITS
FIGURE OUT WHERE YOU CAN CUT YOUR SPENDING
That $6.00 Starbucks coffee every day adds up to $168 a month. That’s $2,016 a year.
Yes, $2,016 a year!
How about instead of paying $2,016 a year for a Starbucks coffee every day, you only spend $30 for a years worth of coffee?
Let me break it down for you…
Two containers of coffee grounds costs $30 and you can make 400 cups of coffee with it – that’s enough for one cup of coffee for a whole year.
How many of you have cable, Netflix, Hulu, AND a Firestick? 🙋♀️ You DON’T need all of those!
I REFUSE to pay for cable because we have Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video.
You’re just spending $60-100 a month for cable when you don’t NEED it.
If you feel like you need cable, then stop paying for Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon. You will save so much and you will thank yourself!
Stop wasting money, friends!
4. IMPROVE YOUR SELF IMAGE
You may be asking “Why do I need to improve my self image?” or “Why do I need to take care of myself?”
Well, when you don’t take care of yourself, you’re really no use to anyone else – your spouse, your kids, family, or friends.
Everyone is better off when you take care of yourself.
LEARN TO LOVE YOURSELF
How, you ask?
You are unique in your own way. YOU are the best version of you!
Don’t shut people down when they compliment you. Let the compliments boost your confidence.
DO THINGS YOU LOVE
Make time to do things you love! When you find time to do the things you love, you will be happier and healthier.
Make time for quiet time, self-care, or friend time. You will feel better in the long run.
Don’t beat yourself up. You don’t need to feel shame or guilt because of something that happened in the past, you can’t change it, so forgive yourself.
REPLACE YOUR NEGATIVE THOUGHTS
I’ve written an entire post on getting rid of negativity. See it HERE!
STOP COMPARING YOURSELF
This is so important! Worry about your own life. You are on your OWN journey.
GO TO BED EARLIER
You don’t have to go to sleep earlier – even though sleep is important for your health – just take some time to unwind and relax. Enjoy the calm and quiet before bed.
HIT THE STREETS (OR PUMP SOME IRON – WHATEVER YOU FANCY)
I don’t know about you, but I always feel better after a work out. I feel lighter and happier and just better in general.
Even if you can’t get in a hard core workout, take the stairs or park at the back of the parking lot, just to get those extra steps (and a little more fresh air).
TURN YOUR PHONE OFF – JUST DO IT!
Get AWAY from social media – all it does is bring you down.
Mute your phone for an hour and enjoy some “me time”
I let my phone die for a few hours once a week (usually on Saturdays) and I enjoy some much needed, quality time with daughter and husband. I know that if there is an emergency and my family needs to get in touch with me, they have my husband’s phone number.
Once you learn to love yourself, you’ve already won the battle.
Now that you’ve learned to make the most of your time and money, are you ready to make yourself a priority? Are you ready to take your life back?
