If you’re anything like me, your baby doesn’t sleep, EVER. My little one is 3 months old and she doesn’t sleep through the night (of course) and she will only take a TEN minute cat nap. I feel like I have absolutely NO time to do anything!
I went back to work early from maternity leave, when my mini was only 6 weeks old (I was allowed 12 weeks of leave). After a few weeks of working, I realized it wasn’t working out. My babe didn’t like going and sitting at the office with me all day long. So, my boss helped me figure out a way to work from home (I’m SO thankful for her!).
Now that I was working from home, it was time to get my mini on a schedule. I had it all mapped out – naps at 9am, 12pm, 3pm, and 6pm. & then I put it to the test. I monitored EVERYTHING for 3 days – her sleeping and eating schedule, her play times, everything. & I realized my schedule was NOT going to work! 3-month-old babies follow their own schedule (who knew?! HA!). So, I researched and combed through tons of parenting websites. Then, I came across a routine called E.A.S.Y and it’s the best thing in the world. It has helped me tremendously!
Aren’t they the cutest when they’re sleeping?
The routine is:
E – Eat
A – Activity (independent play, tummy time, etc.)
S – Sleep
Y – You time (because YOU deserve it!!)
My baby, for example, wakes up around 7am and has a bottle. Then she plays with momma (and independently) until she starts getting fussy. I will then lie her in her crib for a nap. She doesn’t ever fall asleep on her own, but we’re working on it.
“Y” is for you time! Take those 10 minutes (or longer, if your baby is a good napper) to just unwind, relax, and do something you like. I usually journal or watch a little Netflix (Check out my post on “15 Must Watch Netflix TV Shows”). Like I said before, my babe only sleeps for 10 minutes – it’s exhausting really – but when she wakes up, we start the entire routine over again.
This routine doesn’t follow a schedule at all. She might take one nap at 8:15 am and then another at 9am. It’s all up to how my mini is feeling that day. You know your baby best, so follow his/her lead. They will let you know when they’re tired!
Do you have any routines that work for you and your baby? I’d love to hear your experiences!
Have a beautiful day!
