My husband is in the Navy and we live in Virginia. Our families are from Michigan, which is where we were raised. Marriage is hard. Especially when your spouse is the only one you have to lean on. When my husband is out at sea or when he goes on deployment, it is hard (and always will be hard) to be here alone. That’s why we make sure that our marriage is strong before, during, and after any time apart.
He hasn’t had to go anywhere since my daughter was born – she’s 10 months now. I’m thankful he has been able to be here for us. But sooner than I know it, he will be deploying. I always try to do things to show him how much I love him. Not because our marriage is rocky, and not because we need to strengthen our love for each other. Just because he does SO much for me and our baby. I want him to know how much I appreciate every thing he does for us and our future.

14 Day Marriage Challenge
Day 1 –
Give your spouse 3 compliments today. These can be “thank you for making me so happy” or “you’re so handsome”.
Day 2 –
Hug your spouse 5 times today. I don’t care if they are leaving for work, cooking dinner, or brushing their teeth. Give them 5 hugs – and make them meaningful!
Day 3 –
Find a new recipe and cook together in the kitchen.
Day 4 –
Cuddle and watch a movie on the couch together.
Day 5 –
Stay up a little later and talk in bed (no electronics allowed).
Day 6 –
Buy them something from the store or gas station (favorite candy bar, chips, drink, etc.) just to let them know you’re thinking of them.
Day 7 –
Take a walk together and hold hands.
Day 8 –
Have a picnic (if the weather isn’t cooperating, have it indoors).
Day 9 –
Go out to dinner – just the two of you. Pick somewhere that means something to you (first date, favorite place, etc.)
Day 10 –
Slow dance together. You could dance to your wedding song or another of your favorites.
Day 11 –
Take a drive. Midday cruising with the music up OR midnight under a sky full of stars.
Day 12 –
Take one of your spouse’s tasks and do it for them. If they usually do the dishes, take out the trash, or walk the dog, do it for them this day.
Day 13 –
Leave a little note in an unexpected place. A random “I love you” in their lunch box or a “Can’t wait to see you after work” in their car. Get creative!
Day 14 –
Praise them for all the positive things they do for you. Tell them how much you appreciate them.
Fall in love again!
